Fall tour 2024 with mold gold part 3
our fourth stop was Minneapolis. Also our longest drive, by ours I mean Mere’s drive because I did not have my license and couldn’t drive legally whoops. To split up the drive we stopped in Des Moines and hung out with a few of Mere’s friend from living up there. Everyone I met through them was so sweet! The consensus from all of them was that they hate living in Iowa. Supposedly Iowa has higher rates of cancer in millennials and zoomers? Woof
after Des Moines, we filled the time by playing a game where we gave each other a prompt about songs we like and took turns showing each other tunes.
Minneapolis was a perfect show, I was really excited to play there. I love visiting Minneapolis. It’s a wonderful city with so much cool music but still feels down to earth.
we played at a house called silver plus. The basement was decked out in silver everywhere. A lot of people came out which was cool(also the stage fright was totally gone), but one of the best parts was seeing Spiritual Frenzy and Mary Grace play. Spiritual Frenzy is my new friend Nate, and he plays long form pieces of psychedelic American Primitive guitar. He uses a million pedals and a slide and just shreds these beautiful melodies. Mary Grace is the project of my new friend Molly, she makes breathtaking organ music which she sings over. Her organ reminded me of terry riley’s music. She was also shredding yet brought a really serene vibe to the room. These two were my favorite acts I got to see on this run. We want to recreate the same bill in St. Louis.
the other highlight of the night was getting to see my friends Kristen, Nora, and Antoine, all three had lived in St. Louis previously.
after the show, Antoine, Nora, mere, and I went to little Tijuana, a dimly-lit late night food spot and bar. They were playing enya over the speakers.
that night we stayed with Antoine, mere wasn’t feeling great so they passed out early while Antoine, Nora, and I listened to records. Nora left and Antoine and I turned down the lights and listened to records for a few hours, a really proper sleep over. Antoine has the best taste and the best record collection.
he showed me this really amazing live album by Abd Halim Hafez, an Egyptian pop star from the 60s and 70s. The album is wild, before the music ever kicks in the audience is screaming for the music to begin. You can hear them yelling with excitement the whole record. Abd Halim Hafez was deported from Egypt after the concert for “inciting a riot. The whole concert is on YouTube.
the next morning we went to modern times (classic Minneapolis move) and got breakfast with Nate, Molly, and my friend Midge. I got the huevo rancheros.
